Top 37 things to do and attractions in Tarrytown (2024)

The hotel and it's surrounding grounds were truly beautiful. The people welcoming and accommodating from the time I stepped into the lobby till my leaving two days later. The gentleman at the front desk really helped me with reservations at a local restaurant that he was kind enough to recommend. My room was cool and clean and had a wonderful view of the great lawn, with deer! I needed extra towels and after my call to the front desk they arrived within ten minutes. I will be back in the fall for Blaze and I can't wait!

This was my second time here and absolutely recommend it. This stunning estate is the perfect spot for hosting conferences, with spacious and comfortable rooms that are ideal for both working and relaxing. The conference room is equipped with top-of-the-line technology to ensure that all presentations run smoothly. The room is spacious and well-lit, creating an atmosphere that's both professional and inviting. Another highlight of this estate is the dining experience. Guests can enjoy delicious buffet-style meals that are sure to satisfy all taste buds. Additionally, there's a snack area available with coffee, tea, pastries, and fruit to keep attendees energized throughout the day.

I’m disappointed to share my recent experience at Tarrytown House Estate, a place my family and I used to visit every year. This time, things took a turn for the worse. The pool, a highly advertised amenity, was a nightmare. It was packed to the brim, with guests practically fighting for a spot, and the staff seemed indifferent to the chaos. Once we finally managed to secure seats, the management abruptly demanded everyone leave the pool for a last-minute event. No apologies, no explanation. The next morning, we requested a late checkout at 12, hoping to make up for the lost time. The response from the management was not only unapologetic but downright rude to my wife. Their lack of consideration has ensured that we’ll never return. If you’re considering a stay in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend other options like Castle Hotel. It’s time to move on from Tarrytown House Estate, and I encourage you all to do the same. The charm and hospitality that once made this hotel special have clearly vanished.

The service here was wonderful. Tim went above and beyond in welcoming us and In seeing that my sister and I, in separate rooms, were comfortable and in rooms that were not only well appointed, but also easily accessible to the pool and dining area. The estate is lovely and the staff in the Mansion at brunch (delicious) and front desk made everything even more memorable. At the pool we ran into Rita who gave us some background info on the history of the area. Pool area very nice with small bar.All in all we had a lovely three days and look forward to returning soon.Just wish there was a gift shop- we would have loved a book with history and photos.Well done!

Our stay at Tarrytown House Estate with our dog was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and at home. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly, making sure our furry friend had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The spacious and well-appointed room provided ample space for us and our dog to relax. The estate's beautiful grounds were perfect for leisurely walks, with plenty of open areas for our dog to explore and play. We particularly appreciated the pet-friendly amenities and thoughtful touches that made our stay so enjoyable. If you're looking for a luxurious and welcoming getaway with your pet, Tarrytown House Estate is an excellent choice. Highly recommend!

Gorgeous property. Room was nice but wasn’t cleaned properly before my arrival. There was old food and drinks in the refrigerator. The safe didn’t work. Wallpaper peeling off the walls and there was a used towel hanging on the shower rail. Regarding the Pool: The website and the signs at the pool say “adults only” (which was THE reason for booking there) but the pool was filled with kids and the occasional crying children. Would have been fine had I willingly known the pool was not advertised as adults only.Food is outrageously expensive. I ordered a pasta dish for dinner in my room. It came in a small round plastic takeout container. With all the service charges, taxes and tip it cost $52. There was nothing extraordinary about the dish. Pic of pasta below. The surroundings and property itself were beautiful, but I would not stay there again. Didn’t get what I paid for.

Beautiful property...amazing restaurant-Goosefeathers. Nice staff. The bed was not comfortable. The rooms could use a bit more attention when it comes to cleanliness. I would love to try them in the Summer time...when the grounds are dry and pool is operational. I'm not sure I feel I get the true amenities experience in the winter months on an overnight stay.

My son got married here 2 weeks ago! ! ! This place is beautiful inside and out. You can walk around the paved trails and hills and stop to smell the roses. Some people may needA GPS to get around and not get lost. LOL ! It's hard to believe that this place is so close to NYC, amazing!

4 stars for the rooms due to there always being an issue with the shower head and the cleanliness of the linen (found strands of fine hair when I unfolded the towels). I've stayed here too many times over there years for this to keep being an issue. Beautiful grounds, plenty activities for families (indoor/outdoor pool, racquetball court, jumbo chess, basketball court, and tennis court) close to a restaurant strip to get food during hours when the restaurant is closed. Be ready to walk- the grounds are huge and plenty of stairs involved.

When booking the "King Balcony Room" it is important to note that "King" is the name of the room not the size of the bed. The double bed creaks loudly owing to what I discovered on my last day was a broken support. The room is very beautiful, but sparsely furnished. The view from the balcony is fantastic though. I was disappointed that the restaurant was closed for renovations, and the other two restaurants on site were closed for unknown reasons. This was especially frustrating because the workers would come in early to begin the renovations, making quite a bit of noise, and leaving the whole building smelling of paint. None of this was disclosed at the time of booking, otherwise I might have looked elsewhere.

I recently stayed at the Tarrytown House Estate and my experience was absolutely phenomenal. The historic charm of the estate, combined with modern amenities, made for an unforgettable visit. The rooms were beautifully appointed, offering both comfort and luxury, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure every need was met. The estate's grounds are stunning, with meticulously maintained gardens and breathtaking views of the Hudson River. Dining at the on-site restaurant was a delight, with exquisite dishes that showcased local flavors. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat, Tarrytown House Estate is the perfect destination. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Loved this place! We only stayed one night came up to see some foliage and visit Sunnyside, the home of Washington Irving. Many people were there to go to Blaze, the Halloween experience. Parking and check-in were fine, it is a little bit of a walk to the rooms from the parking lot so if you have difficulty walking I would suggest making arrangements for accessible accommodations ahead of time the staff seem very helpful. We stayed in Winchester on the 3rd floor. The rooms are clean and spacious and I loved the Gilchrist and Soams bath amenities. Room seemed very quiet at night even though the hotel seemed pretty booked. There are 3 or 4 different parking lots -lots nearest to the rooms can fill up, we got lucky to find a spot nearest our room when we came back from dinner. We checked out the fitness center it is really large and overlooks the indoor pool. There were only 2 people in there the night we were there next time we will definitely bring bathing suits! We splurged on breakfast in the Biddle mansion- the staff is wonderful there and they make omelets and waffles to order. The view from our table was overlooking the outdoor patio and you can see a bit of the Hudson River. We are already planning our visit for next year!

Truly wonderful place to visit if you need a quick get away from NYC. The grounds were lovely to walk. The buffet was delicious! The gym was very up to date. It's noted all over the website but be prepared to climb lots of steps to get to and from places. The place is a bit of a maze but over all lovely.

This property this Estate is on its gorgeous. It has a lot of history! The rooms have been updated but the bathroom are definitely dated. The staff was friendly and the Goosefeather has great food and drinks.

The Tarrytown House Estate is NOT clean, NOT well-maintained, NOT customer service-oriented, and NOT worth its price. Our three night stay cost over $700 for the base rate. The most significant issues which led to our decision to check out early and request a refund for the second and third nights of our reservation, are described below. Pictures are also attached. In our room, we noticed that the air conditioning wasn't working properly and asked the front desk to look into it. Their solution was to dismantle the entire AC cabinet, with the cabinet door and other components on the floor, and the top of the cabinet propped up. The unit was exposed to the room and looked sloppy and dirty (see photos). We could see spider webs, dirt, and stains inside the cabinet and decided to raise the issue with management first thing in the morning because it was late at night when we discovered it.The next morning when we raised the issue, the manager told us that taking the cabinet apart and leaving it dismantled is standard protocol at this hotel. This "solution" was shocking, unprofessional, and unacceptable, especially for a room at this price point. In the morning, we also noticed a large, brown stain on the bedspread of the bed we had slept in (picture attached). We were disgusted and decided that we could no longer stay at the Tarrytown House for the remainder of the reservation. We requested a refund for the second night of our stay in addition to having the fee waived for the terminated third night of the reservation. We are awaiting resolution of our request for the second night refund. An extremely disappointing experience for a hotel that brands itself as offering "thoughtfully appointed guestrooms for a perfect stay.""Old world elegance on the Hudson" this is not.

Beautiful place to stay. I gave it 4 stars because the room smelled funky. When I told the front desk they didn't blink an eye. Or do anything. I did have dryer sheets I put in the air conditioner vent. It helped a little. The ac didn't work the greatest either. The first time I stayed here the other room was much nicer. They probably haven't gotten to redo this room yet.

It looks so beautiful online but it is not what it seems. The chance you’ll stay in the beautiful estate you see is slim to none. It’s more like a campus where you have to walk to other little buildings. We stayed in the Putnam. Parking is difficult, navigating the “campus” is also difficult. The rooms are just your average 2-3 star hotel room, nothing special. The floors have dips in them. The beds are not too bad. When we had issues staff tried to help but it seemed like there was not even close to enough staff. The location is convenient.

The over all ambience of the location was beautiful. We weren’t given the room we had originally booked with the explanation that we couldn’t be guaranteed the room we wanted, just a similar room with the same price. Felt a little bit like a bait and switch. The room we chose was bigger and had a fire place and the feel of an 1800s suite, the room we were given was much smaller and lacking the ambience of the original room. The person at the front desk was kind, but said there wasn’t much they could do for us since they were fully booked and the room we originally requested was out of service. According to the 3rd party service with which we booked the room, there was a price difference between the room we chose and the one we were given. So unfortunately, the hotel couldn’t help us with that. Completely understandable. Our room did have about a dozen lady bugs in the bathroom, but at that point we just wanted to enjoy our Valentines evening and took the lady bugs as a good omen. The night we were there the hot water wasn’t working, but it seemed to have been fixed by morning. For the cost of the location, I would hope they stayed on top of those things.

Paid a premium price for a room that was a cheap flip. Light fixture was hanging out of the ceiling. All tiles and furniture were poorly painted over in an attempt at upgrading. Rug was ripped, etc. Brought this to the attention of person at front desk who did nothing to address the issues I presented.Making matters worse is this response from management, a meaningless statement that focuses on their business and not the customer.“ Robert, we regret to hear about the condition of the room and the subsequent service you encountered. We typically take great strides to ensure our patrons' comfort, and we apologize it wasn't your experience. Every concern like yours guides us in improving and often such details do make a noticeable difference. We also feel sorry that your interaction with our front desk team member didn't meet expectations. We'll take your feedback into account and strive to improve our guest's experiences. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.”

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our wedding room block at Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. While our venue wasn't Tarrytown House itself, the proximity made it the perfect choice for our guests, and it turned our wedding weekend into a memorable retreat. The accommodations, particularly the Presidential and Executive Suites, exceeded our expectations. The spacious and beautifully appointed rooms provided a luxurious haven for us and our guests. The attention to detail in the decor and amenities made our stay truly special. The staff at Tarrytown House deserves a special mention for their exceptional service. From the moment we checked in to the time we checked out, every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They were not only professional but also warm and accommodating, making us feel like VIPs throughout our stay. The picturesque setting of Tarrytown House Estate added a touch of magic to our wedding festivities. The lush surroundings and stunning views of the Hudson River created a serene atmosphere, providing a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of wedding preparations.Thank you, Tarrytown House, for being a part of our special weekend and contributing to the wonderful memories we'll cherish forever. We look forward to returning for future celebrations and escapes!

It was a beautiful place to stay. Staff were so nice and accommodating. The food was excellent. The room was great. It had a coffee maker and a refrigerator. The only issue I had was that they made up the king bed with a full top sheet. It only covered half the bed. I took it off after the first night thinking they would fix it ,but they put the full sheet back. It was very strange. When it was brought to their attention it was fixed.

The Tarrytown House Estate is such a lovely place. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. My car was buried in snow from an overnight storm, and the staff was so helpful towards getting my car shoveled out and providing me with a late check out as road conditions improved. The rooms are stylishly decorated, and I especially loved the river views in the Putnam units. And comfortable beds. I wish I could have stayed longer! Would love to return in the spring, summer, or fall, to see how the property looks with the trees filled.

I went October 2023 for a weekend wedding. It was a nice area. The campus seemed pretty old and rustic. I booked my room as apart of a wedding block a year prior. I was a little disappointed when I arrived because when I booked the room it required payment in the full amount. They said my card didn’t go through but they kept the booking, which didn’t make sense. I thought it was already paid and had to do some digging on my own. I would have appreciated them reaching out and telling what was going on. Having to pay over $800 on the spot was very unexpected.I stayed in the king sunroom. There were many times the room smelled like the food from downstairs, which wasn’t too bad because it smelled good, but I rather have a more neutral smell. It was better than the musky smell my other friends rooms smelled like. I wish they had better ventilation. The roof deck area was legit. Loved having some of my friends over to enjoy the view, that was the best part. I wish they had some lighting out there for night time. The lighting they did had seemed to not work. The ac didn’t seem to work too well, as it was unexpectedly hot for October. The pool area was nice and they had stocked towels. They also had a nice sauna, but the ceiling was buckling a bit. The pool is near the sports area and it seemed like some of the equipment didn’t work in there. As many other posts say, this hotel has such great bones, but they really need to spend some time doing updates to their campus. I wouldn’t have stayed here if I wasn’t attending a wedding or event here.

Beautiful location. 26 acres with two historic mansions, updated resort areas with modern hotel accommodations. Our stay was very nice. Bell hop service to get our luggage to our door. Place is massive, it was a little confusing finding our room. The room itself was comfortable. Beds were nice. We had a great view of the Hudson, we could see NYC and the Mario Cuomo Bridge.

The only complaint I have about this hotel is that your room can be hard to find, due to the layout. However, during our last stay management more than made up for it. The general manager, Mark, was walking the hallways, getting eyes on how things were going that night. He saw that we were lost and offered to help. After finding our room for us, we discovered that our room key did not work. Mark was embarrassed and very apologetic. We assured him that we had stayed at the hotel of number of times and the key was always programmed properly and that we were just happy he was there with us, as he had it taken care of immediately . Mark offered to buy us a drink at the bar. We took him up on the offer and had a lovely time. The bar is in Goosefeather, a very hip and highly rated Chinese restaurant. Mark made us feel like we belong at that hotel. Excellent customer service comes from the top. The next morning we enjoyed the beautiful breakfast buffet, which is served in the oldest and most beautiful part of the property. Again, the service made us like important guests. The hotel is a gem, with staff that will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable.

We photographed a wedding here a little over a year ago and had such a fun time! There are so many opportunities for a variety of photographs, from beautiful gardens (we loved the purple blooming flowers) to quaint wallpapered interiors. Looking forward to returning!
