I'm going to keep reading, and I just made a post about it, but ... please tell me I'm not crazy for finding Peter Petrovich's/Luzhin's little scheme about Dunya revolting--

The whole thing about needing his wife to be some poor woman he can "rescue" ruffles my feathers ... and it reminds me a bit too much of Catherine in Wuthering Heights (I'm sure you're familiar with how much I despise her asdfghkl)--marrying to "save" someone just feels icky to me. But also I needed confirmation from my Russian literature mutual that I'm not misinterpreting this (I only just started Chapter III of Part IV, so if anything happens after, I have yet to read it--going to get back to it after I send this ask).

I know you said I could pop in and ask about it, but I still hope this ask is alright!! Feeling some emotions over this.

Oh no you’re absolutely right! It’s true that Russian lit, especially around this time period, has most of the cast be varying levels of morally ambiguous - but Luzhin is, intentionally, one of the worse of the lot, and from my memory Dostoevsky almost belabors that point. His intentions with Dunya are absolutely shady, and you’re definitely not wrong for feeling that way!

Answered Himeko’s first because it gives some background on the whole trying to recruit Carmen quest - because that’s probably what puts them first into contact! March is probably pretty hilarious at it because she’s both a little starstruck and not at all subtle. But the thing is that, March is very charming in her own weird March way, and I think because they’re going to end up interacting a lot, some kind of friendship between them is inevitable. It’s definitely a very teasing, playful, funny friendship, but a friendship nonetheless.

March also probably has some not-so-positive thoughts about one of Carmen’s potential relationships. You know which one.

🦚 and himeko?

Ooh, okay, Himeko!

So Carmen and Himeko… Do you remember how Himeko wants to find former Astral Express passengers on Penacony? Well, she also finds out about Carmen’s background as a descendant of a trailblazer, and she’s very interested. She comes up with the idea to try to recruit Carmen to the Astral Express and gets the rest of the crew on board.

As for how she, personally, gets on with Carmen, maybe it’s because they’re both bright and intelligent and inquisitive, but they get along like a house on fire. They’re probably among the faster-burning of Carmen’s potential ships because the way their personalities mesh just lead to sparks flying very fast. Himeko definitely seeks out time with her and I don’t think would be terribly shy about wanting a date or two with her.

Also I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Justice is convinced that this song suits them really well

I also associate this song a lot with Carmen for some reason, and I feel like it definitely should be a ship song for her, I just can’t for the life of me figure out which ship it suits

A bit more context on Carmen for the meme:

She is Penacony-based! She’s a performer who sings and dances there. However, she isn’t from Penacony, and Penacony isn’t her first time away from her home planet. Her grandfather was a trailblazer, and she herself has been wandering around the galaxy since she first became an adult. She doesn’t have strong ties to any one place in particular, and by her own admission, she doesn’t tend to stay in one place long.

Hmm - maybe send in 🦚 + a Honkai Star Rail character and I can give some more information on Carmen’s relationship with that character!
