How to Make Oat Milk Iced Coffee (in 2 Minutes!) (2024)

Summer is here, it’s iced coffee time! Saving you money and time, this oat milk iced coffee recipe can be whipped up at home in under 2 minutes.

At around £4 a cup for an oat milk iced coffee at Starbucks and Costa (or cold brew latte as it’s also known), it costs a pretty penny to have a takeaway iced coffee.

What’s that? This oat milk iced coffee can be made at home for under £1 a cup?! What a saving!

Use your favourite home-brewed espresso and creamy oat milk to make this vegan iced latte at home in under 2 minutes. A deliciously refreshing drink for a hot summer day (and you don’t need to leave the house to get it!).

How Do You Make An Oat Milk Iced Coffee?

You’ll need:

1. Espresso (you can use decaf if you like)
2. Oat Milk (ideally barista-style*, we’ll come on to that)
3. Ice
4. Maple syrup (or agave, if you like your coffee sweetened)
5. A tall iced coffee glass (something to make your at home coffee feel extra special!)

OAT MILK TIP: Pick a barista-style oat milk if it’s available in your local store. The acidity of coffee can cause some oat milks to split or curdle. Barista oat milks are specifically designed for use with coffee, and as such, they usually have stabilisers in them to prevent the milk from splitting.

OTHER NON-DAIRY MILKS: You can switch out the oat milk for almond milk or another dairy-free milk or plant-based milk alternative of your choice; soya milk is another great option for iced coffee.

OTHER ADDITIONS: A tiny dash of vanilla extract makes a wonderful addition if you enjoy a vanilla latte. You could use brown sugar syrup as a great alternative to maple syrup. Avoid using granulated white sugar where possible, as it doesn’t tend to dissolve properly in cold drinks.

Step-by-Step: How to make Iced Coffee with Oat Milk

It’s super simple to make this creamy iced oat milk latte.

1. Brew your espresso using an espresso machine (or make some really strong coffee)
2. Fill a tall glass or mason jar with ice cubes (like these iced coffee glasses)
3. Add the maple syrup (if using) and the espresso
4. Pour in the oat milk
5. Stir to combine

Is Oat Milk Good for Iced Coffee?

Yes! Oat milk is usually creamy and smooth with a neutral flavour, which makes it an excellent choice for iced coffee.

Does Oat Milk Curdle in Iced Coffee?

Yes, some varieties of oat milk can curdle in iced coffee.

Coffee is naturally acidic, whereas oatmilk tends to have a more neutral PH. When the two are mixed, this difference in acidity can cause the proteins and liquid in the oat milk to separate, thus causing it to ‘curdle’.

To avoid this curdling, it’s important to pick a barista oat milk (i.e. one that’s been specially formulated for use in coffee) for use in your iced latte.

Pick a barista-style oat milk for the best results when making an iced coffee with oat milk at home. These are some of our favourites:
