Exclusive Interview with Ray Giangiordano (2024)

Upcoming 100: What inspired you to become a music artist, and how did your journey begin?

Scorpiono:My journey began when I was in high school. I always wanted to try something in music. I was in a few bands then; however, we all went our separate ways. Then, I thought maybe I could do this by myself without being in a band. So, I tried the genres and one of the ones I was the best at surprised me. It was rap. So, I found out that I could do this and have just stuck with it.

Upcoming 100: Could you describe your creative process when composing and producing music?

Scorpiono:First, I get a song structure, then, I brainstorm about what I want to write, put my ideas together and make a song. Sometimes I write the songs by myself and other times, it helps for me to bounce things off of other people.

Upcoming 100: How would you define your unique musical style, and which artists have influenced you the most?

Scorpiono:Midwest and Westcoast Rap with Italian flavor. Techn9ne and Eminem are who I modeled my business after; however, I have more than one influence. I have learned to write how I feel.

Upcoming 100: Your latest album/song has received critical acclaim. Can you tell us about the story or inspiration behind it?

Scorpiono:The Way Of The Scorpion 2

Inspired by: The Mummy Franchise, Peyton Parish, The Scorpion king, Guys that have beards, Guys with goatees, Scorpions, Lil Wayne, Rittz, Techn9ne, Independent artists around the world. Sounds like : Eminem, Techn9ne, Rittz, Yelawolf, Key Glock

Upcoming 100: How do you balance your personal life with the demands of being a music artist?

Scorpiono:That is difficult. I always wanted a career in music, so I am learning that if I do different parts of music I could make an income and also have a better chance at maintaining a balance in my life. For example, I do DJ work, write and record rap music, have my own podcast, and manage myself and my business. Now, I am just working on making a steady income so I can enjoy my family; and make time to play with my dog and my daughter.

Upcoming 100: In the ever-evolving music industry, how do you stay relevant and adapt to new trends?

Scorpiono:With ongoing analysis of the music industry and trends, talking to peers in the industry, and continually reading and listening on social media and other platforms, I continually update as needed.

Upcoming 100: Collaborations are a significant part of the music industry. Can you share your experience working with other artists, and what you've learned from these collaborations?

Scorpiono:I enjoy working with other artists, as single owners or as part of larger enterprises. I feel like I can always learn from them; as well as share experiences and professional tools. For example, I work with another artist with some of my beats who has a different way of mixing and developing beats than I do. I think this relationship has assisted me in improving my skill, and also helped this artist getting access to resources he did not have prior.

Upcoming 100: How do you handle criticism and negative feedback about your music?

Scorpiono:At first, this was very hard for me, but now I look at it as a learning experience, things I can improve for next time to make it better.

Upcoming 100: What role does social media play in promoting your music and connecting with fans?

Scorpiono:It does quite well, especially utilizing promoters that help me along the way.

Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to aspiring music artists trying to break into the industry?

Scorpiono:Don’t give up, as this industry is very difficult to break into. My thoughts are you can do whatever you put your mind to. Also, take time to meet those artists you aspire to being like to get incentive; and remember to enjoy your time with your music.

Upcoming 100: How do you ensure that your music resonates with a diverse audience?

Scorpiono:Working with other artists, and others of different backgrounds and likes to listen to my music prior to it being distributed to the public.

Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or plans for the future?

Scorpiono:I started my business in 2015. I release songs under my rap name, “Scorpiono” and beats under “Toxifying Beats”. Currently, I have started offering this new package that I am excited to share with others, called the “Ultimate Startup” for new and established artists. It offers assistance with mixing, mastering, video editing, and graphic design. I also release new beats and songs every year, as well as podcasts, some in collaboration with other artists and some on my own. I will say, maintaining three of my own websites, trying to establish a business, and creating a fan base does involve a lot of time, especially with a young family.
