2018 Buick Enclave Avenir 3.6L (W LFY) 9-spd (9T65) — 5GAERDKW4J⦁⦁⦁⦁⦁⦁⦁
No A/C
No AC Pressure
hi guys, i got this 2018 Buick Enclave Avenir in my shop. this lady came with NO AC problems, thinking it was a leak. we went through everything we can and couldnt find anything more than what it follows:
Pressures with compressor on:
100-120 psi high side
100-120 psi low side
we found no leaks with leak detection sniffer, or with UV dye in the system
i am aware that this has 2 evaporators so we went through every line and connection to make sure we dont have a leak. low high side pressure would sugest me that i have low refrigerant
vacuumed and held vacuum just fine
we went to recharge the system and the compressor is not able to make suction of the refrigerant, it will take maibe 100g of refrigerant (i dont have a r1234yf machine) and just stops entering the system
this system has that high pressure line that gets into the low pressure line, im thinking it might have a puncture in the high pressure line inside the low pressure line?
this car has a new AC compressor so i dont think is the solenoid. live data shows the solenoid commanded at 95% and when i command it at 100% it has a slight pressure increase, when commanded 0% the pressure is reduced to about 80psi.
has any Ac tech encountered this problem before with this newer GM vehicles? i believe all vehicles using this platform are similar.
thank you all.

This is a reply from an experimental AI-powered advisor. It is important to exercise caution, verify information from multiple sources, and make informed decisions based on the prevailing circ*mstances.
David, based on the symptoms and details you've provided, it sounds like the issue may not be a leak but rather a problem with the compressor or a restriction in the system. Since the compressor is new, it's possible the issue could be with the installation or a defective part. Here are a few steps you can consider: - Check Compressor Installation: Ensure that the compressor is properly…

Have you looked at the humidity reading if the humidity reading is off the compressor will not function correctly

In my experience, equal HI and LOW pressures with AC compressor on indicates a failed compressor. Since the compressor is new I would also recommend checking the lines for contaminated refrigerant/oil.

Agree, sounds more like compressor is not working.

The low lines are often twinned these days. Suction line is under the liquid HP line for a bit of extra cooling efficiency of the HP liquid. I doubt it it to be leaking, but possible in some weird way I suppose.Same thing for all of these compressor types, with both clutch and displacement controls. I assume the clutch is fully engaging? You need to verify what voltage and return you have for…

Sounds like a bad compressor

Back probe at these connections and see if you have near 12V while the A/C says its at 95%, starting at the compressor.

One thing I see is that you say it will only take 100g. Are you gas charging it? If you liquid charge to the high side it should take the whole amount unless you are not depressing the schrader. When you gas charge the evaporation takes place in the cylinder. When you liquid charge, the evaporation takes place in the system. Where ever the evaporation takes place will be cooler and the pressure…

What side are you charging from? 100g is only .2lbs and you need 2.4lbs. I normally charge from the low side with vehicle running and A/C on and when the compressor kicks on it should suck it in.

With your pressure reading clearly indicating that the compressor is not compressing, any leak testing and charging is a waste of time. I hope that you don't bill the customer for it.Simply test electrical power to the compressor, and replace the compressor if there is no external electrical fault.

I'm a bit confused. According to the diagram this compressor has a clutch and solenoid. Clearly your pressures are good so doubtful to be a charge issue. So that bring us to why is there no pressure change? Which leads to the compressor. Its real simple, if clutch is coming on and solenoid wires light a 1 amp bulb when AC is on then it needs a compressor.

It was 95F outside the other day when we got a 2009 bmw in the shop with the vents blowing warm air while the low and high pressures were both sitting at 100 psi with the AC set at max cooling. We evacuated and retrieved only 200g of R134. That system takes about 700g to fully charge. After charging the AC worked fine. By the way, the pressure was about 100psi after fully charging the system as…

That is not possible, pressure means everything. You have a gauge error, if it is 100 psi on either side you will have no cooling.

I look forward to hearing more on this one from the OP. Hoping he might actually tell us what is going on with the connection for compressor swash control.
